Palliative Care is care for people with a life threatening illness and their families.
Palliative Care involves a team effort with health professionals (doctors, nurses, social workers, volunteers etc.) working together to provide care for the ill person and their family.
Palliative Care offers support by helping people live a meaningful life through:
•Assistance with the relief of pain and other distressing symptoms.
•Provide culturally sensitive care recognising that any illness impacts on the whole person:- physically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.
•Respect for a person’s right to make choices.
•Provision of support for carers, family and friends, including bereavement support.
