The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) service provides parents with support, advice and information about child and family health issues. The MCH nurse monitors the growth, health and development of all children, with the aim of maximising their health potential. All birth notifications are sent to the local MCH service; the service will contact the family and arrange a home visit within the first two weeks of the birth of their child. Further appointments are recommended at ten key age stages of the child’s growth and development. First Time Parenting Groups and information sessions are run regularly.
Nurses can also assist with breast feeding, women's and children’s health, nutrition, parenting, post natal depression, family planning, and child/home safety.
