DIABETES NURSE EDUCATOR
The community Diabetes Nurse is available for one on one consultations for people with diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance.
EDUCATION
They play a key role in the management of an individuals diabetes by providing education on the fundamentals of diabetes, important components of effective management and education on how to measure and interpret blood glucose levels.
Some areas the Diabetes Nurse covers are:-
•Treatment of diabetes, different types of insulin therapy and oral hypoglycaemic agents and their use in the management of people with diabetes
•Principles of dietary management
•Managing diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperosmolar non ketotic coma
•Assessment and management of chronic complications
•Macrovascular risk factor management
•High Risk Foot Assessment and Management
•Wound Care
•Management of Diabetes in Pregnancy
