The Urgent Care Centre (UCC) at Benalla Health is a busy, dynamic 6 bed department, seeing on average 600-700 patients per month. It has 4 acute beds and 2 resuscitation beds. The (UCC) is manned by highly skilled Registered Nurses who are all trained in Advanced Life Support and have excellent assessment skills. On arrival, you will see a triage nurse who assesses your immediate needs. More serious cases are given priority even if they arrive after you. The nursing staffs in this department are very competent and are continually updating their knowledge. It is not usual for people to come to the (UCC) with life threatening illnesses. People who do arrive with life threatening illnesses are usually transferred to the nearest appropriate health service.
Benalla Health does not employ Doctors. The (UCC) service is provided with the support of Benalla’s General Practitioner workforce who service the (UCC) in addition to their normal workload. The nursing staffs have a professional working relationship with the GP’s which enables them to discuss treatment options.
